Alberta Rocky Mountains
In the summers of 2016 through 2018, I was a member of the Mountain Legacy Project's field crew. We conducted repeat photography from mountaintops across the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, from Kananaskis Country to the Willmore Wilderness Park, using high-resolution digital cameras. This often involved long hikes carrying heavy equipment, but thanks to generous in-kind support from Alberta Agriculture and Forestry's Wildfire Division, it also often involved flying to stations by helicopter to increase productivity.
For this work, I have received Helicopter Hover Exit certification, Transport Canada Restricted Operator Certificate with Aeronautical Qualification certification, and Wilderness First Aid certification. |
Hawai'i
In winter 2015, I helped organize a class trip to Hawai'i for fellow students in the Earth System Science program at McGill University.
The trip included visits to the Mauna Loa CO2 observatory, Kilauea volcano, several national and historic parks, a tsunami museum and the Hilo Forest Reserve. |
Costa Rica
In winter 2014, I participated in a field trip to Costa Rica with students in the Earth System Science program at McGill University.
The trip included visits to Rincon de la Vieja Volcano National Park, La Selva biological station, Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and coastal areas. |
Barbados
In winter 2012, I participated in a field course on Marine Biology and Oceanography offered through John Abbott College, hosted at the McGill Bellairs Research Institute in Barbados.
The course included Caribbean fish identification and contribution to local fish count surveys, plankton tows and microscopic analysis, fish dissection, coastal erosion processes, a seagrass experiment and guest lectures on sea turtle conservation. |
